    I just spoke with an engineer at smartdevices.com.cn and he said that the company has NO PLANS to release WindowsCE in English. So if anyone with the technical expertise to sort out an English version using the drivers etc… from this working Chinese version, I bet that a lot of folks would appreciate it. I would prefer not to use anything pirated but the current Linux runs so poorly on this thing that it has been nothing but a waste of money and time for me. Anything to get some use out of it is better than letting it sit around. (Yes, I know I could learn Chinese as another option…)

  22. Heath Brown
    July 22nd, 2009 at 20:52 | #22

    Are you serious? They don’t plan on releasing an english version of WinCE? That’s crazy. They are shooting themselves in the foot if that is true. They have an opportunity to capture a whole market of people who want to read and use the internet with a device of this form factor. If anyone from China is reading this – please let them know they are making a big mistake! I’ve sent a ton of people to get these things but if I find out this is true I’ll likely stop sending customers their way.

    vote +1 Heat Brown.
    If WinCE only in Chinese. In this case this device is not so useful. Tried to modify some doc and excel files but I can see only keyboard cannot see what Im doing. Better is just see content of file. Also display is not rotating in v.4.0 firmware. Has anyone tried?

    Hi. I have 2 isues that I could use some help with. #1, I can’t seem to get the wifi working in windowsCE. when i first installed it, i saw window pop up on it own showing my wireless connection but i couldn’t read the chinese so i closed it until i could show someone who could read it and show me around a bit. then we couldn’t find it again. i have clicked on everything in the system and can’t find the wifi. the obvious place, the sys tray shows icons with red ‘x’s that i think are for the wifi and bluetooth but when i click on the wifi one it doesn’t list any connections. when i reboot it into linux it works fine.

    #2, i read a post somewhere, that i can’t seem to find again, where a guy installed a cab file that translated his smartq 5 from chinese into english. he said that about 80 percent was translated. the file is just called enWinCE.rar (unpack it and it is a .cab file) and if you google it you will see it is available from a bunch of sites–none in english. i think it was originally meant for a meizu device. in any case, i downloaded it and have no idea where to put it. for now, it is just sitting on my SD card and in windowsCE it diesn’t even appear.

    July 26th, 2009 at 19:14 | #38

    found the cab file on the SD card. it seems it wouldn’t copy properly on a mac for some reason. i tried from a pc and there it is. i tried extracting the cab file and inside there was a setup.xml. just monkeying around. no idea what to do here.

    still no wifi in windows.

    i have reinstalled wince 8 times. the wifi doesn’t work.

    i searched google for wince translation information already, but thanks for the great tip.

    the best i found was , download the cab file and double click on it. didn’t work. maybe i should have tried yahoo.

    has anyone reading this had any success translating wince?

    the wince wifi sucks , so many users have this problem , i hope they can fix it in next version

    July 27th, 2009 at 21:34 | #43

    @benner
    how do you quit wince os ? the right way is press power button for 5 seconds , then there is pop up window , and click “是”
    if you use other tools or improper way to exit wince , it will damage wifi function.
